What is the Virginia Nanotechnology Initiative?
The Virginia Nanotechnology Initiative (VNI) is a statewide organization that accelerates research, development, and commercialization of nanotechnology in Virginia in order to create nanotechnology industry clusters in the Commonwealth.
What are VNI's major activities?
VNI builds Virginia's nanotechnology community through collaboration and communication. It identifies opportunities for collaborative research and funding and facilitates university/industry interactions. VNI works with public and private organizations and academic institutions at all levels to advance an understanding of nanotechnology as well as the state's educational and workforce training programs in nanotechnology.
Can individuals, companies, and universities join VNI?
Yes! The Virginia Nanotechnology Initiative welcomes the participation of those involved with or interested in nanotechnology at the individual or organizational level. Please contact us for more information.
When was VNI established? VNI -- formerly the Initiative for Nanotechnology in Virginia (INanoVA) -- was established in August 2001 through seed funding from the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT).
How is VNI funded?
VNI is underwritten and operated by the Center for Innovative Technology.
What is the structure of VNI? VNI is run as a program through the Center for Innovative Technology and is led by CIT’s VP for Research Investment, Ms. Nancy Vorona.
